Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Epilogue ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.

About Epilogue

Epilogue is a reading companion app for iOS that helps you track your reading, take notes, and engage with books through AI-powered conversations. The App is designed with privacy first—your data stays on your device unless you opt into optional cloud features.

License to Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

  • Install and use the App on devices you own or control

  • Access features and services we provide through the App

  • Sync your data via iCloud (optional)

You may not:

  • Modify, reverse engineer, or decompile the App

  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices

  • Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose

  • Sell, rent, lease, or sublicense the App

User Content

Your Data

  • You retain all rights to your books, notes, quotes, and other content

  • Your data is stored locally on your device

  • If you enable iCloud sync, your data syncs across your devices via Apple's iCloud service

  • You can export or delete your data at any time

AI-Generated Content

  • AI responses generated through Perplexity AI integration are for informational purposes only

  • We do not guarantee accuracy of AI-generated responses

  • AI responses are not stored by us—they appear in your conversation history locally

Subscriptions

Epilogue+ Subscription

  • Available as monthly ($7.99/month) or annual ($67/year) auto-renewing subscriptions

  • Subscription prices may vary by region

  • Payment charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase

  • Automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period

  • Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period

  • Manage subscriptions and turn off auto-renewal in your device Account Settings

Free Tier

  • Includes 2 free AI conversations per month

  • All core reading tracking features included

  • No credit card required

Cancellation

  • Cancel anytime through iOS Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions

  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period

  • No refunds for partial periods

  • Access continues until the end of paid period after cancellation

Refund Policy

  • Subscription purchases are managed by Apple

  • Refund requests must be submitted through Apple's refund process

  • Contact Apple Support for refund inquiries

  • We cannot process refunds directly

Privacy

Your privacy is paramount to us. Please review our Privacy Policy for details on:

  • How we handle your data

  • On-device processing

  • Optional iCloud sync

  • Third-party AI services

  • Your privacy rights

Key Privacy Highlights:

  • No account or login required

Third-Party Services

Perplexity AI

  • Used for answering questions about books

  • Subject to Perplexity's Terms of Service

  • Optional feature—app works fully without it

  • Questions are routed through our secure proxy

  • No personal information is shared

Apple Services

  • iCloud sync uses Apple's iCloud service

  • In-app purchases managed through App Store

  • Subject to Apple's Terms of Service

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal purpose

  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or compromise the App

  • Abuse AI features for spam or inappropriate content

  • Violate intellectual property rights of others

  • Share copyrighted book content without authorization

Intellectual Property

Our Rights

  • The App, design, features, and code are owned by Epilogue

  • "Epilogue" name and logo are our trademarks

  • Protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws

Your Rights

  • You retain all rights to your content

  • We claim no ownership of your notes, quotes, or reading data

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING:

  • Merchantability

  • Fitness for a particular purpose

  • Non-infringement

  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation

We do not warrant that:

  • The App will meet all your requirements

  • AI features will always be accurate or available

  • The App will be compatible with all devices or iOS versions

  • Your data will never be lost (back up with iCloud!)

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages

  • Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for subscriptions in the past 12 months

  • We are not responsible for data loss (please use iCloud backup)

  • We are not liable for third-party services (Perplexity AI, Apple services)

Age Requirements

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the App

  • If you are between 13-17, you must have parental permission

  • By using the App, you confirm you meet these age requirements

Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access if you:

  • Violate these Terms of Use

  • Engage in fraudulent activity

  • Abuse AI features or services

You may terminate by:

  • Deleting the App from your device

  • Cancelling your subscription

  • Using "Delete All Data" in Settings

Upon termination:

  • Your license to use the App ends immediately

  • Your local data remains until you delete the App

  • Active subscriptions continue until the end of the billing period

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Changes will be posted at:

We will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this document.

Material Changes:

  • We will notify you of significant changes via the App or email (if provided)

  • Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance

  • If you don't agree to changes, please stop using the App

App Updates

  • We may release updates to improve features, fix bugs, or enhance security

  • Some updates may be required for continued use

  • Updates may change features or functionality

  • We recommend keeping the App updated for the best experience

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes shall be resolved through:

  1. Good faith negotiation

  2. Binding arbitration (if negotiation fails)

  3. Small claims court (for eligible disputes)

Entire Agreement

Severability

No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
