  • Books you add to your library

  • Reading progress and completion status

  • Custom notes, quotes, and questions you create

  • Voice recordings during Ambient Reading sessions (transcribed on-device)

  • Reading session timestamps and duration

User Preferences

  • App settings and customization choices

  • Theme preferences

  • AI model preferences (Sonar vs Sonar Pro)

Information Collected Automatically

Device Information

  • Device type and iOS version (for compatibility)

  • App version (for support)

  • Crash reports (anonymous, if enabled)

Usage Analytics

  • None. We do not track your app usage, behavior, or analytics.

How We Use Your Information

On-Device Processing

  • Voice Transcription: All voice recordings are transcribed locally on your device using WhisperKit. Audio never leaves your device.

  • Color Extraction: Book cover analysis happens entirely on-device.

  • Text Recognition: Visual Intelligence features process images locally.

Cloud Services

iCloud Sync (Optional)

  • Your books, notes, and reading sessions sync across your devices via iCloud

  • This data is encrypted and only accessible with your Apple ID

  • You can disable iCloud sync in your device settings

Perplexity AI Integration

  • When you ask questions about books, queries are sent to Perplexity AI

  • Questions are routed through our secure proxy server

  • No personal identifiers are attached to queries

  • Perplexity processes queries according to their privacy policy

  • You can use the app without AI features

Data Storage

Local Storage

  • All your data is primarily stored on your device

  • Data is protected by iOS security features

  • Deleted data is immediately removed from your device

iCloud Storage

  • If enabled, data syncs via Apple's iCloud service

  • Protected by Apple's end-to-end encryption

  • Only accessible with your Apple ID credentials

  • Subject to Apple's privacy policy

Data Sharing

We DO NOT:

  • Sell your personal information

  • Share your data with advertisers

  • Track you across apps or websites

  • Store your data on our servers

We ONLY share data when:

  • You explicitly share content (e.g., sharing a quote)

  • Using AI features (queries only, not personal data)

  • Required by law (we have no data to share)

Third-Party Services

Perplexity AI

  • Used for: Answering questions about books

  • Data sent: Your question text only

  • No personal information is shared

  • Optional feature - app works without it

CloudFlare (Proxy)

  • Used for: Secure routing of AI requests

  • No data is stored or logged

  • Acts as a security layer only

Apple Services

  • iCloud: For syncing (if enabled)

  • CloudKit: For data storage (if enabled)

  • Subject to Apple's privacy policy

Your Privacy Rights

You Can:

  • Access Your Data: All your data is visible in the app

  • Delete Your Data: Use "Delete All Data" in Settings

  • Export Your Data: Export feature available in Settings

  • Opt-Out of Features:

    • Disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings

    • Don't use AI features if preferred

    • Deny camera/microphone permissions

Data Deletion

  • Deleting the app removes all local data

  • iCloud data can be managed in iOS Settings

  • No data remains on our servers (we don't have any)

Children's Privacy

Epilogue does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for general audiences interested in reading.

Security

We Protect Your Data Through:

  • On-device encryption (iOS standard)

  • No external account system to hack

  • Secure proxy for AI requests

  • No password storage (no accounts)

  • Regular security updates

Permissions

Camera

  • Used for: Scanning book covers and ISBNs

  • When: Only when you tap "Scan Cover"

  • Storage: Images processed and discarded

Microphone

  • Used for: Ambient Reading voice capture

  • When: Only when you activate Ambient Mode

  • Storage: Transcribed on-device, audio deleted

Visual Intelligence

  • Used for: Extracting text from book pages

  • When: Only when you use text capture

  • Storage: Processed on-device
